The A Break-N-Care Difference

Three standards that set us apart. Every shift, every family, no exceptions.

The difference isn't in what we say. It's in the thousand small things that happen when no one is watching, which is exactly when they matter most.

01

Undivided Attention

Our caregivers keep their phones out of sight. While we're with your loved one, they are our only priority. No scrolling, no texting, no distractions. Just presence.

02

Proactive Initiative

We don't wait for a checklist. If we see a light bulb out, laundry that needs folding, or dishes in the sink, we take care of it. Every home we leave is a little better than we found it.

03

Ironclad Reliability

When we commit to a shift, we show up. On time, prepared, and ready. In six years, our cancellation rate is under 1%. Your schedule stays your schedule.

About the Founder

A nurse's standards.
A neighbor's heart.

After ten years as a registered nurse and ten years as a certified nursing assistant, and the personal experience of caring for her own family through illness, Mary A. Smith founded A Break-N-Care. She had seen, from both sides of the profession, how often "home care" meant checked boxes and absent caregivers.

She built A Break-N-Care to be the service she wished had existed for her family. Every caregiver she hires is held to the same standards she holds herself: show up, pay attention, see the need, meet the need, then go beyond.

"See a need, meet a need, then go beyond. That's how I was raised, and it's the only way we do care. Every shift, every family, no exceptions."

From the Families We Serve

The words we're most proud of.

"We tried three agencies before finding Mary and her team. The difference is night and day. Mom actually looks forward to them coming now. She calls them "her girls.""

"After a 14-hour shift at the hospital, I used to come home and immediately start another shift with my father. A Break-N-Care gave me four hours I didn't know I was allowed to take. I slept. I ate. I was human again."
David K.
RN, Deaconess Health
Newburgh, IN
"Reliable is an understatement. In two years, they have never once been late, never once cancelled, and never once phoned it in. That's apparently the standard, and it's what you pay for."
